Alex started his musical journey at the age of thirteen and hasn’t looked back since. Hailing from the West End of Newcastle – upon – Tyne, he has humble beginnings, but has in recent years proven himself to be one of the North Easts finest talents.
During Alex’s time at Newcastle College he was given the opportunity to meet and perform with some of the most famous drummers in the world. Aaron Spears, Jojo Mayer & Thomas lang to name but a few. Alex left Newcastle in 2014 to pursue his aspirations of becoming a working musician, and after two years he has graduated from The Academy Of Contemporary Music, Guildford.
Alex was awarded first class honours (BMus) for his degree in Music Performance.
Under the guidance of industry veterans such as Frank Tontoh (Craig David, Amy Winehouse), and Pete Riley (Guthrie Govan, Rhythm Magazine), Alex has moved from strength to strength. His Youtube channel "AlexBlackDrums" currently has over 300,000 views and he is currently working on material with his band XERO as well as other projects.
XERO recently performed at the world acclaimed Bloodstock Festival in 2019 as well as their latest single "Saints" getting regular airplay on Planet Rock's New Rock Show. Alex’s career has gone from strength to strength as he moves to pursue his goals and give back to others what he has been so fortunate to receive himself.
"Alex Black's attention to dynamic detail, accuracy and groove is to be celebrated. It has always been awesome working with Alex and his band Xero; the way they lock together is outstanding and I would always recommend him for live and studio work as a reliable, versatile and professional standard drummer." - Kieron Pepper (The Prodigy)
