About
Alex started his musical journey in the west end of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne at the age of thirteen and hasn’t looked back since.
After receiving private tuition at his high school, Alex decided to continue his music studies at Newcastle College. This is where he found a true passion for music and performing. In 2014, Alex left Newcastle College after being accepted into The Academy Of Contemporary Music, Guildford to further enhance his studies at degree level and to pursue his aspirations of becoming a professional musician. Under the guidance of industry veterans such as Frank Tontoh (George Michael, Amy Winehouse, Craig David), Pete Riley (Guthrie Govan, Rhythm Magazine) he graduated from ACM in 2016 with first class honours (BMus).
Post graduation, Alex began teaching drums privately, recording and performing across the UK with various acts, as well as continuing to post covers, lessons, transcriptions and playthroughs on his Youtube channel "AlexBlackDrums" which currently has over 450,000+ views collectively.
As well as teaching privately at his own drum studio in Newcastle, Alex is currently recording and touring with “Giant Walker” - Their debut album was released in May 2022 and picked up a two-page spread as Metal Hammer's ‘New Noise’, along with a multitude of reviews and features in a variety of respected publications and platforms, including the Daily Express, Sunday Sport, Prog Magazine, Planet Rock, BBC, Rolling Stone, and others. Following their album launch, Giant Walker sold out multiple dates on their first UK headline tour, shortly followed by further runs - co-headlining with Hawxx, and supporting both Boss Keloid and Black Orchid Empire on their album launch tours. In celebration of the 1 year anniversary of 'All in Good Time', Giant Walker released a live album, 'Live at Anarchy'.
The band now return in 2024 after signing to Church Road Records with a brand new single "Make Me" - which has picked up coverage on Radio 1, as well as nationwide touring plans throughout the year.
Alex’s career has gone from strength to strength, as he moves to pursue his goals and give back to others, what he has been so fortunate to receive himself.

"Alex Black's attention to dynamic detail, accuracy and groove is to be celebrated. It has always been awesome working with Alex and his band; the way they lock together is outstanding and I would always recommend him for live and studio work as a reliable, versatile and professional standard drummer." - Kieron Pepper (The Prodigy)
